This is an acrylic painting I did from a photo I took in Spain several years ago. The Sunflower is an amazing thing -- deceiving actually. They are so STRONG, you almost cannot break off a flower with your hands. The blossoms were HUGE and the stalks stood more than 6 feet tall!

See this in my e-store...
as a print(16"x20") or on anything from mugs, to shirts, to totes.

  1. I use a small saw for harvesting the heads on my russians. amazingly thick stalks!

I like the way you treated this. the texture of the leaves appeals to me.

    great illustration

  2. The shapes AND textures are wonderful... as is the somewhat limited pallette and great focal points.

  3. This is very beautiful. Well done :-)

  4. Very nice painting, I would have guessed watercolors without reading your description. I agree they are amazing, especially a dense patch of them - strength in numbers!

  5. Wow, love the colors and the design.

  6. Such strong, vibrantcolors. Sunflowers are suchamzing flowers...almost from anoher world! This is a lovely panting.

  7. I agree, the sunflowers are amazing things!

This is a lovely painting and the texture is great, I hope I also will manage to paint the sunflower one of these lovely days, since I live where they grow.

    Best regards
